Frequency of 0.94 cases / 10,000 live births.
>10-fold increase in California from 0.06 cases / 10,000 live births in 1968 to 0.89 cases / 10,000 live births in 1977 (1).
This incidence has also been reported in other geographical areas of the world (2).
Occurs more commonly in young patients (3).
Women less than 20 years of age were 11 times more likely to have a child with gastroschisis (3).
