INCIDENCE OF GASTROSCHISIS

• Frequency of 0.94 cases / 10,000 live births.
• >10-fold increase in California from 0.06 cases / 10,000 live births in 1968 to 0.89 cases / 10,000 live births in 1977 (1).
• This incidence has also been reported in other geographical areas of the world (2).
• Occurs more commonly in young patients (3).
• Women less than 20 years of age were 11 times more likely to have a child with gastroschisis (3).
